Fraida Hickson, 56, a deputy police commissioner who runs the city’s parking bureau, pleaded guilty in federal court to one count of credit fraud on Wednesday, April 24. She was suspended from her position this week following the guilty plea.
According to the federal complaint, the investigation into Hickson was launched in 2017 after she had two plastic surgeries using her victim’s name, CreditCare account and Social Security number. The case was brought to the FBI when Hickson’s victim checked her credit and found that she had not paid more than $20,000 to her account for surgery she didn’t have.
Hickson reportedly claims that she was initially rejected when she applied for a CreditCare account, but alleges that she was later contacted by an employee from the company saying that she had been accepted. Hickson claims that she met the employee at a gas station in the Bronx and paid him $2,500 for access to the account.
When she is sentenced on Sept. 19, Hickson will face a maximum term of 15 years in prison for the credit fraud charge.
